In 1998, the Company was involved in a trademark dispute regarding use of the phrase "American Queen" on art prints.

Here is the decision

Just another piece of the puzzle.

Paul,

Isn't it sad what trite cases fill our courtrooms? I would have thought the registration of the vessel names as registered service marks would have precluded this type of lawsuit from even happening.

Does anyone remember when the Delta Queen Steamboat Company first made registered service marks of the vessel names. I wanna say they did it in 1988 or 1989. I know it was sometime not too long before the purchase of American Hawaii Line. Just can't remember at the moment.

Hi Tracv,

I'm not sure if this one was "trite", though. Without knowing what occasioned the lawsuit, and trying to wade through the text, it looks to me as if they wanted protection from any unlicensed sales of pictures of the boat that included the phrase "American Queen" in the title. Since this was three years after she was built maybe something happened. I would also think they already had such protection for the DQ and the MQ too.
