I am sad to report the death of my friend and fellow crew member, Captain Mike Swiegert, yesterday from a heart attack. Captain Mike will remain forever important in my life, as he allowed me to share the pilothouse in my wonderful week as watchman, and subsequently answered many questions for me in my time as Riverlorian. He took every question seriously, taking the time to draw sketches, and even running the "lesson" by the mate to make sure it was understandable to someone not as conversant with the terms as an academy graduate. He took his job seriously, was thorough, kind, and had a wonderful sense of humor. I knew that if he was at the sticks, we were in safe hands. I can only imagine the heartache his family must feel. Captain Mike grew up the next town over from me--I believe his parents still live there.
I hope someone will post a link to the arrangements as they become available. RIP, my Captain.
Farewell to a good friend and dedicated riverman. Rest in eternal peace, Capt. Mike.
Michael my friend, we are heartbroken with your early departure, but comforted knowing that you have reached the greatest port, and are all fast, safe and secure, finished with engines.
Here is a link to Captain Mike's obituary. RIP Captain.

**quivering upper lip and labored breathing**
Always had a "Good Morning" and a warm smile for me and my better half coming out of the pilot house, us drinking coffee on the Sun Deck starboard...incredibly sad...
RIP Capt, I'd like to say 'my friend', so glad to get to know you...
