I just read in my email addition of Preservation Magazine articles on two ocean going steamboats. One covered the US United States tied up for the last 3-4 years in the Delaware River just south of downtown Philadelphia. If she does not come up with a buyer at or above scrap prices this 1958 ocean liner that holds the speed record of a crossing from London to New York is likely headed for the scrapping yard. There is a group actively trying to raise funds to save her. Her hull is reported to be in good shape but she has not had steam up for a long while.
The second article was more encouraging and covered the restoration work going on on the HMS Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.

I remember seeing the SS United States when I was in New York visiting the 1964 World's Fair when I was 14.
