with all these great ol' boats going away, what about some good news on a boat that went to get fixed up. Has anyone heard news on how she's doing or how the renovations are going?
Funny you should mention this, Matt...I just passed by there day before yesterday. The hull work is going well, from what I could see. The framing is all in for the bustle stern; no plating on the stern yet. Jeff Spear told me earlier in the week that things were going well. The boat was a little late getting to the drydock in the first place, which was fortuitous as the drydock sank a few days before the SNYDER's arrival. Had she been on it, oh, boy! At least had that happened, things would have been covered by insurance. Thankfully, all is okay. I do wish they would replace the bucket boards that are now out of the water, but waterlogged.
I'm glad they are getting the Snyder's work completed, as the Save America's Treasures program has been completely axed by the current administration. I hope the Snyder's funds are guaranteed, and surely they are, but it's sad to see the SAT historical preservation program die to pay for other gov'mt spending.
We missed winning our $300K SAT grant for the Barbara H due to a mis-interpretation of our project by one of the committee chairs. We know this because we have a friend, high-up in the National Park Service in D.C., who investigated it after we learned we didn't win the grant in '06...
Sounds like the Snyder is on the floating dry-dock. Wonder why McGinnis didn't haul her out on their regular marine ways?
You are welcome to come pan for gold in our mountain stream. That is how we plan to survive when all else fails.
