Hi everyone, I've run across some interesting pics of steamboats in New Orleans. They're stereographs (2 images together to create a 3-d effect) and are from the Louisiana State Museum's digital archives.

There are two photos of the steamer John W. Cannon. I decided to post these if anything just to draw attention to the smokestacks on this vessel. They're huge! Not to mention very ornate, but just look at the height on them in the second set of photos:

Drew, thanks for sharing.

A beautiful boat with nice lines, enhanced by her unusual long boiler deck that started at the jackstaff. I suppose there were not many boats designed like John.W.Cannon. A very different view at her high stacks is in Gandy`s book "The Mississippi Steamboat Era" on p.26, picture 33. You can barely read the last 3 letters of her name, but notice the forward end of the boiler deck. She must have been a dream to look at with her domed pilot house, texas skylight, etc.
