Judy,
This is such a sad set of pictures. As I look at them I remember the day I first saw this vessel coming out of the Louisville and Portland Canal...it was amazing! She was a beautiful vessel...the river will miss her!

President -- Topic of Forum at French Quarter Festival in April
My name is Carolyn Kolb (sorry it is spelled wrong on this site, my fault.) I am a historian and will be chairing a panel on the Steamboat President at the Music Colloquium at the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans April 18 or 19 this year. Location will be on Decatur St. at the Jean Lafitte Nationa historical Park Headquarters.
The topic is not just the riverboat, but the music. I will let you know who will be on the panel when we have it set up, but the Hogan Jazz Archives at Tulane University, the Louisiana State Museum and the Historic New Orleans Collection will all be raided for visuals and archival data.
I am so glad to know the sad details of the President's current status and would very much like to get in touch with the new owners.
This panel will last an hour to an hour and a half and is free.
Now, you are all invited. I would like your permission to downloada and use your pictures, and, if you know of any videos taken onboard, let me know.
Another question: any Hollywood movies shot on board?

Scrapping of President
What in the world is this? Sidewheel boats just don't get no respect. First it was the Lansdowne, now this.
The Lansdowne was a very long lived boat - 1884 to the 1980s. Here is a link.
