What irony that these three events all occurred on this same date, November 30th. The first by chance of birth, the second surely planned to coincide with the first, and the third by the cold, cruel, hard hand of fate. Without the first, the birth of Clemens and the subsequent Mark Twain, there would be no lingering steamboat musings with all its resulting consequences… including the other two.
