This isn't for the faint of heart, folks. I would think that even the most optimistic of you will now realize that this is it for the MQ. Now the question is: where and when will the auction be and what will be included?

Sad. Oh so sad!

Sad. Oh so sad! This was a wonderful vessel and it's too bad we couldn't save her. I wish I would have been this active three years ago. Perhaps it could have happened. Now it won't. Time to focus my efforts on what we CAN save - the Str. Mamie S. Barrett.

Thanks, Judy, for posting the "finale" to this sad saga which puts to rest all the resurrection rumors concerning the MQ. We hoped against hope, but it's now painfully obvious that it simply is not to be. Farewell to yet another fine and faithful lady of the river.

Seeing the end for the boat is hard. But, it gives the situation some kind of finality. She was a great boat and I will always cherish my time on her. Perhaps someone will save the engines for a new build sometime in the future. I certainly hope so...because a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into those engines and keeping them going for all those years.

Engines

I have my doubts that the engines will be saved - doesn't seem like there is a market for new steamboats these days. Wilbur Dow had the foresight to buy both the GENERAL NEWTON and the MISSISSIPPI machinery, which are still owned by New Orleans Steamboat. His philosophy was that he might not be building another steamboat, but nobody else would either, without having the expense of building new engines.

Any news of when the auction of salvaged items will take place? I wonder if "Laverne & Shirley", the calliope mermaids, will also be on the auction block!

Auction

I just hope they are reasonable with the peices. I fear they will over price them as being gold and they will end up lost for all time. It would be nice if they would donate the unsold items to the museum. I know very wishfull there.

The "Not Ready for Prime-Time Players"

The video ends, they then go back to the seasoned anchorperson, who must have something intelligent to say, Right??? NO! He just says that "Mississippi Queen" was sung by the group "Mountain". Just like a skit on Saturday Night Live!....

I noticed the same thing, Denny! As if anyone under 40 ever heard the song before watching that piece anyway!
