My wife and I will be visiting in Cincinnati at the end of May. I'd like to visit the statue of Captain Mary, which I recall is across the river in Covington. Can one of my .org friends provide directions?
Many thanks,
Wesley
Google It
Go to Google Maps and enter Riverside Drive, 41011 as your destination. MBG's bronze unlikeness is located in the George Rogers Clark Park. If you can find Riverside Drive you can find the park.
Also note the Mike Fink floating resturant that was the steam paddlewheel towboat CHARLES DORRANCE / JOHN W. HUBBARD. Sorry, but the Fink is not open for business. You will also be in the shadow of John Roebling's Cincinnati & Covington Highway Bridge, better known locally as the "Suspension Bridge".
Have fun.
PS: When the Suspension Bridge looks like the attached print, you are in the right location.
Mike Fink
Speaking of the MIKE FINK, why is it not open? When they closed it, it was ostensibly for renovations. As busy as that place was, I can't imagine that it wasn't making money. Are there perhaps hull problems? That was such a wonderful place to eat, watch the river and observe the Cincy skyline.
Roebling Bridge?
Can one walk out on the Roebling Bridge? Is there any parking on either side? I've walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and would like to do the same in Cincy.
Thanks again.

Greater Covington
Judy:
The FINK has just had extensive hull repairs, but why it isn't open is "another category", as Chief Cal would have said.
Wesley:
You should find parking in Covington. Personally, I would keep to parking on the Kentucky side of the river where you will find more people moving about, and a safer, friendlier atmosphere. But, too, I'm from Covington and slanted that a'way. Yes, you can walk across the Suspension Bridge, but the walkways are on the roadbed level of the bridge and not elevated as on the Brooklyn counterpart.
Also take a walking tour of the Riverside National Historic District that includes the small area bordered by the bridge to the West and the Licking River to the East. Included would be the brownstone townhouse, on Riverside Drive, where Roebling was supposed to have lived when he was laying out the bridge. Also, Commodore Fred. Laidley manse, the Thomas Carneal House- an example of early Adams-style of architecture, and the Amos Shinkle B&B on the 200 block of Garrard Street. Captain Shinkle was the driving force behind the construction of the bridge. Stop in and tell Bernie Moorman, proprietor, that I recommended the stop, but call me Capt. Don Sanders; not Shipyard Sam.

Rabbit Hash Visit
Shipyard,
Thanks for the additional details.
This here i-tinerary gets more interesting. I see that Rabbit Hash is not to far from Covington. I need to see if I can get the Mrs. interested in a drive down to the General Store.

Center of the Universe
No tour of this part of the world would be complete without a visit to Rabbit Hash, "The Center of the Universe". Trust me.
Rabbit Hash website
