I can recognize a few of them. Do we have to cough up a name? There are no doubt some of Sharon's relations in it. Are you counting the person walking on the roof?
Well, you're in it. There's one. D-wayne D-pew, the purser, two. That would qualify me for 18% of the Snicker's.
You know, some of these people are showing mostly their back side....Is Patsch disqualified from this contest?
No, we'll let Judy participate! You should know the guy on the roof, Lex. Yes, some of Sharon's relations are in it, as well as some Dubuquers and two Cincinnatians. That's all the clues you get for now. I don't really want to divvy up that Snickers bar!
lock13
was that Glenn climbing the fence? and yes I saw Bob and Duane. maybe Bill Gatzke or Kelly on the roof?
Well, Mel, which one do you think it is on the roof? Gatzke or Kelley?
Judy is "offline" for several days and is aboard the SPIRIT OF PEORIA for a three day jaunt down the Illinois and Mississippi. She called Saturday night with a "live from the levee" report and said the weather was wonderful and that a good time was being had by all of the 31 or so buffs and buffettes on deck. Last evening they landed at Grafton and the passengers spent the night at the Pere Marquette Lodge. They continue on to St. Louis today, arriving this afternoon. Most of the passengers return to Peoria via motor coach, while Judy and a few of the others are doing an extra "river safari". I'm sure you'll hear from Judy when she's back at home base.
I thought that's where she was. What about you, Keith? Don't you want to take a crack at the candy bar?
Naw! I'm long overdue to have my bifocals changed, can't see small details worth a hoot and, besides, Milky Way is my favorite candy bar! However, I will venture a guess that the man on the roof is Bill Kelley.
He has the body shape of Bill. It is certainly not Gatzke who woul be shorter and wider.
I really enlarged the picture and I do believe that Ann Zeiger is to the far left. The kid in the white hat is Sharon's brother, Dave (?) Are there Steineckes (sp) in the picture?
In the enlargement, all doubt was removed. Got to be Bill Kelley on the roof.
It looks like that might be "Butch" Guenther supervising from the Sun Deck forw'd of the starb'd running light.
Good work, everybody. I'll just throw 4 Snickers bars out there and let y'all fight over them.
Starting at left, standing on lock wall: Debbie Bizanz (the future Mrs. Dave Tschiggfrie)
Ann Zeiger is on the Cabin Deck leaning on the railing.
Back on the lock wall: Joe Tschiggfrie, Bert Hamman (sp?), David Shrake (holding Dan
Shrake on his arm), Sharon Shrake, Elsie and Irvin M. Shrake. I believe Joe T.
is holding 2 cases of Dubuque Star beer as his fare for being allowed aboard.
Bob Reynolds on the boat [after having received his box of cookies]. Duane Dupuy
assisting an unknown off the boat, and yes, Bill Kelley on the roof.
What really dates this picture for me is that Dan Shrake was 2 years old at the time, and he is now the 35-year-old Pilot for ARTCO on large Upper Misssissippi tows.
trip info for the pix
Bob just pointed this posting out to me, and I see the IDs have been made. So here's a bit about that trip: It was Gabe's first year as DQ Master on the UMR, and there were 3 segments from New Orleans to St. Paul: 10 days from NOLA to St. Louis, 3 days from St.Louis to Dubuque, and 3 days from Dubuque to St. Paul. I had booked all of them so as to ride the entire Mississippi. I am not in the picture as I would have been on the Sun Deck stern, tossing doubloons to the crowd on the observation deck. This was always one of our biggest crowds, until the schedule put us in there after midnight in the '80s.
Its Bill!
well Captain Reynolds, after further examination I would say Bill Kelly!
Oh and that was before I read any other posts on here Bob. I felt that body shape, tall and skinny, did not fit Gatzke. But I think Capt. Palmore deserves the Snickers bar.
