This is a code for an event today. I had to promise I would not mention that today is a certain well known Steamboat Master, Pilot, and now NOBRA Pilot's birthday. Since I am not using this persons name, I feel I have lived up to my end of the deal. This does not mean that others must follow the same rules.

Happy Birthday Ted! Heres to another 30 or so years "between the sticks". I remember when you got voted into NOBRA, how tough it was to get in, and how proud we were to see you get it. Smooth Sailing to you my friend.

Ted,

Well, if I'd known, I'd of have someone to bake a cake. Happy Birthday!

70 is 60? Thought you meant that 70 is the new 60. Capt. Ted couldn't be THAT old-- not yet, anyway. Both Rabbit Hash shipyards are closed in celebration. Come on down to the RH General Store and have a nip to Seven-O at Six-O.

" Its Not The Years , Its The Miles " !!

Greetings From New Orleans !
In an Indiana Jones movie , Indy was quoted as saying , " Its not the years , its the miles " , and I have toagree with him on that point !
Over my now sixty years of perpetual motion and having worked over half my life on boats I have certainly racked up a lot of miles and fortunately my mental state has NOT caught up with my physical state , or so I would like to believe !
Regardless , I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and comments !
Last but certainly not least , I would like to quote another famous " Stean Boater " , David Tsch.. , " Your Kindness Will Soon Be Forgotton " !!
Smooth Sailing !

Ted, here's some shots of you during the Seventies. Enjoy, and Happy Birthday!

-Denny Hamilton-

1. Ted in 1872. Hey Ted, NICE HAIR!!
2. Ted in 1976. The Mississippi Queen has just arrived in Cincinnati for the first time, amid much fanfare at the Public Landing. The crewmembers that I talked to were telling stories about the problems with their new boat.
3. Ted in 1978. I was a passenger by this time, and we were racing the Belle in an impromptu meet during the Labor Day Weekend Cruise.6006.jpg6007.jpg6008.jpg

Ted, did I say 1872 for that first picture??? You're old, Ted, but not THAT old! (actually, you're just 4 months older than me!... ) Since most steamboaters were not picture-takers, here's some old shots of me to jar your memory!

-Denny Hamilton-

1. Me in 1972. KY Lock Cumberland River. NICE HAIR!!!
2. Me in 1979. Watchman (temporary) on Jimmy Carter Cruise
2. 1979 again on Carter Cruise. Photo by Capt. Lexie.6009.jpg6010.jpg6011.jpg

Just Saw The Movie......

Greetings From New Orleans ,
I just saw the movie , Wall Street , with Michael Douglas and needless to say it was a great and smart movie with good acting , a good script and an insight into the ways of Wall Street ! One of my favorite lines in the movie and it certainly pertains to this thread , thank you Fred , was " Getting older is not for sissies " !
Ha ! Enough Said !
No truer words were ever spoken !
Smooth Sailing !
