The Original CLYDE.
The Steamboat CLYDE., first iron-hulled steam-driven boat on the Upper Mississippi River, was built in 1870 at Dubuque, Iowa by the Iowa Iron Works, Farley, Rouse, & Company. Later the CLYDE. was converted into a sternwheeler and engaged in the rafting of great rafts of logs down the river.
The "L'il CLYDE." was built by Cap'n Ed Newcomb: "The CLYDE. is our family boat. My son Frank and I built her over the past 11 years. She is diesel powered, 48' long and is docked at the Alma Marina in Alma Wisconsin. Named after the rafter CLYDE. , the first iron hulled steamboat on the western rivers. My grandfather Frank Newcomb was Pilot on her, back in the early 1900's."
I'm glad to see this boat in good hands! Sam, on your trip up the Ohio, stop by the remnants of our landing at mile 545 for a visit, if it fits your schedule!

Steve... I've been thinking about you ever since I got the CLYDE. Please send your phone number at the CLYDE. email address: [email protected].
I can't imagine either not stopping or at least a close pass.
Hey Cap, when are you departing Alma? I'm hoping to take some photos from shore.
We're leaving for Wisconsin within the hour... Departure of the CLYDE. will be next week after preparations are complete.. possibly on Thursday or Friday.
