Dear steamboatin' friend Paul Penta's mother passed away last night after a brief illness. Fortunately, Paul was able to get home to be with her in Boston. I'm sure Paul would take comfort in the prayers and thoughts of his steamboatin' family at this time.

I want to thank all of you who have, by one means or another, expressed your condolences and support. The most important thing in my mom's life was family. And she was pleased to know that I also had a steamboatin' family and she understood how I feel about all of you.

Thanks again
Paul

Steamboatin' Family

Dear Paul, As you said, "Steamboatin' family is true family." I'm sorry I can't be there for you. I know you were so close to your mom. I heard the hope and hurt in your voice as your mom's condition progressed. So, I wish I could take you out for coffee at a diner to talk about steamboats, music, baseball and our families back home. Here's my only way of doing that right now. We'll find a time in the near future to do it for real. I am going to continue the tradition that you yourself have taken part in so many times. I'm putting out the tip jar for you, pal. If anyone wants to help, please email me. We are saying our prayers for you. Love, Phil and Linda

Again, thanks to all of you. And you should know, but not be surprised, that all of you were represented today at mom's Mass by Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Jones of Maine. Their presence added a great measure of warmth and comfort.

I've told my family so often about the people who are part of my steamboatin' life - a life that continues even without steamboats. Today the spirit of steamboatin' was a welcome addition to the tribute paid to her by family and friends. And it will never be forgotten.

Paul
