What is the latest news of THE GOLDENROD. I have been off the Steamboats.org for a while – since January 2005 to be exact. Did I read that correct - that the Goldenrod is now being towed to Madison, Indiana? To be a Bed and Breakfast? I had great hopes for her (The Goldenrod) after Lewis and Clark Landing purchased her. My memories go back to 1977 when she was a showboat downtown Saint Louis. The melodramas were so much fun - I still have my playbills from each one I saw. The history from that showboat was unreal. It was sad that she was vandalized and a lot of her memorabilia was destroyed. I enjoyed seeing the photos of her today. Will she be leaving Alton area soon - or has she left??

To clear up some confusion: In a 2006 thread concerning the GOLDENROD SHOWBOAT, I mentioned that I'd just acquired a photograph of the showboat at Madison, Indiana being towed by the steam towboat CROWN HILL. This is a vintage photo, taken during the days the showboat traveled (1909-1937) and before she was permanently moored at St. Louis (1937-1990) and later St. Charles. To my knowledge there are NO plans to bring the GOLDENROD to Indiana and she remains at Kampsville, Illinois, having been moved there after being towed to St. Louis in June, 2003 for a brief stay near the Poplar Street Bridge.

Goldenrod not moving

Keith is correct. While I was in the Alton area recently for the Buffs meeting, there was no mention of the Goldenrod being moved from Kampsville.
