Both locks at 27 have been closed since Saturday after some structural damage to a protective area was discovered. This closure forced the QUEEN OF THE MISSISSIPPI to reroute and head south. She was in Cape Girardeau yesterday. The schedule I had seen didn't have her back here until October, but that was obviously changed. She left St. Louis Saturday, intending to head to St. Paul. Meanwhile, the AMERICAN QUEEN is on schedule, today in LaCrosse, because she left St. Louis Friday, ahead of the lock closure. Her schedule too had been altered. The original schedule showed her leaving St. Louis on Saturday, which would have sent her south like the QoM is doing. I presume the locks will be reopened soon, but even if they weren't, the AQ is up here until Nov. 12, so her only change would be Alton as the starting/ending point instead of St. Louis, should the worst case scenario happen with the locks, which of course is doubtful.......NCP, NCP, NCP!!!!
(L&D 27 is just above St. Louis about 5 miles from the Arch, in the Chain of Rocks Canal. She has 2 chambers, a 600 and a 1200 ft...)

Reopened

The locks were reopened Thursday morning and it is expected to take about 3 days to clear the backlog of tows waiting. The AQ is up in St. Paul today so isn't at all affected.
