Yesterday thanks to the kindness of Joann Schoen, Barb Hamister, Pat Carr and Pat Traynor I had lunch aboard the DELTA QUEEN. The old gal is getting a little long in the tooth but she still has her old magic. She can still make you fall for her charms and pull at your heart. I thought I had out grown all that years ago, but she overpowered me just as she did when I was a boy.
For all those who were complaining about the new owners and whether they call her a ship or a boat, whether they have an eagle on the front of the pilothouse or a corporate logo, or the trim is red or blue.. none of the matters; the only thing that matters is these owners are running the boat and allowing her to work her magic.
Jim, hear, hear...
And as much as I have inadvertantly labled myself as one of the ones that complains the loudest about the changes, you are profoundly correct. Right now I am very disappointed that we were not onboard during the GSR festivities, especially seeing and hearing about all of our friends that were on board (great picture of Tom Denny, by the way, in the newspaper pictures).
While at the same time, I am counting the hours until our next cruise. She is very magical... and nothing that has been changed SO FAR will lessen her attraction for us. We, Deb and I, are truly greatful to MAL for keeping her rolling on the river. Some of the changes are basically in the "so what" category.
But the experience has changed and I guess we will see if these changes, these de-enhancements, justify the price. So far, there are changes that are disappointing, but we'll still cruise...if the price is there. And it could be that our cruising takes a less rabid turn...one or two cruises a year instead of more.
But I doubt if we'll ever stop as long as she is functional.
