Yep, that's the same table we gathered around for many good meals in the Crew's Mess, below decks, in the '70's. Wonder which end was Cap'n Wagner's? Bet if someone looks closely they may find the initials "EW" carved into the wood on one end or the other.

What stories went round that table; try to imagine the collection of folks who'd gathered about that board over the many years. And what is the story behind how the LUNGA POINT table ended up on the DLETA QUEEN? Big Cap was heard to tell the tale, but the details have long-since escaped me. Anyone?

According to the Doctor...

A call to the "Doctor" revealed this tidbit of information:

"A certain Chuck Coffman, from Pittsburgh, who worked for Dravo Corporation (who owned the LP) was a friend of Captain Wagner's and myself. So when we were tied up alongside the LUNGA POINT at Port Allen (LA), Cap spied the table on the DPC boat and offered to pay for it, but Mr. Coffman told him to take the table and forget the money. We immediately got the crew and carried it right over to the DELTA QUEEN."

My authoritative source also stated that the table was on the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN before it ended up on the AQ.

Pic O' Tha Month

Now we can call the old LP/DQ table snapshot "the Pic O' Tha Month". I'm surprised that this thread hasn't generated some really juicy stories.
