We've been lamenting the loss of our steamboats and history, but here's at least one bright spot regarding American music. Connie Jones is quoted near the end. Some of you may remember him from the DQ and MQ bands.

Even in New Orleans, 'the Birthplace of Jazz', it is getting harder and harder to find jazz/Dixieland music, so this is a glimmer of hope anyway.

And here's a shameless plug: if you go to NOLA and look for jazz/Dixieland music, the best band is the Dukes of Dixieland. And they just happen to be the house (boat) band on the NATCHEZ, have been since 1994. They play on the nightly dinner cruise from 6-9PM and have the place jumping.

Posted that article on Connie's Facebook page. Miss seeing him so much.

You don't want to miss Connie's new CD, recorded with his 'dream band' - including Tim Laughlin (clarinet), Ed Wise (bass), John Sheridan (piano), Danny Coots (drums) and Larry Scala (guitar). It's a wonderful story of how this happened, and it's an incredibly beautiful piece of work.

Connie is one of the most inspiring musicians I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. (No, we're not related, but I am happy to call him my brother).
