Greetings From New Orleans ,
Yesterday was the first full day of the Coast Guard/NTSB hearings regarding the Ship/Tow collision that resulted in 400 plus barrels of No.6 fuel oil being spilled into the New Orleans harbor . Yesterday the Captain of the ship testified that the tow crossed his bow and in such a manner there was very little time or room for him and his State Commissioned Pilot to take adequate evasive action . The opposing attorneys attempted to punch holes in his testamony by asking why the ship's anchor was not dropped . The Captain's answer was that in all likelyhood there was so little time that the anchor chain would have parted and could have possibly created additional problems as well . NOLA.COM has a more complete report of the days hearings and with pictures of the major players in this incident as well .
Smoothe Sailing !
