Misissippi Queen
I took a 6 day cruise on the MQ in 1991 as guest of my late father. He took the entire family 8 of even paid for cruise airfare an 2 days in New Orleans an offer we could not refuse. I remember it fondly and after that I really came to appreciate those great riverboats.Have since been on American Queen in 2012 an she is FABULOUS. It was a SAD day for me to see the MQ going to the scrapyard so badly neglected an I hope sincerely this does not happen again. PS To Dale Flick THANKS for those fantastic posts its like reading a novel that never stops so thanks again Carole Matthews Pompano Beach Fla 33064 Home of 3 Riverboats. Misissippi Queen Steamboats, com
Hello, Steamboats .com has a lot of pictures of the Misissippi Queen before she was scrapped. Some are pretty an some are not. One has the calliope in it which looks almost untouched an I was wondering what happened to it. I had the opportunity to play Chopsticks on it in 1991 while on a cruise. The mermaids an the Misissippi sign are in someones back yard I think he lives on Ohio River. Had them redone an permanently situated there so passling boats could see them. What a grand riverboat she was an what a sad ending for her and I will always remember her with great regard. Sincerely Carole Matthews located in Pompano Beach Florida 33064 excuse spelling THANKS
Dear Carole,
I always read your posts, and enjoy what you have to say. I live in Jeffersonville Indiana. I'm live only about a mile from where the mermaids are displayed. I used to play and swim right there when I was a boy. I will be 90 yrs. old, come this next July 23. All my dads family were river folks, with my Dad having worked at Howards Shipyard back in the 20's & 30's. My uncle Bill Grimm worked at FEF BOAT for 39 years. My uncle Walter Grimm was a pilot & captain for many Years.

Sir thanks for the delightful post and I will put a d on the and just as you suggested. Did you say you live in Jeffersonville? You must know Keith Norrington curator and director of The Howard Steamboat Museum located at 1101 East Market Street on board there since 1968 and the fine job he is doing. He writes for the Waterways Journal an old boat column which is so fascinating I can hardly wait to see the next one. Its all about the old some past and forgotten riverboats with pictures. Thanks again Were you ever oon the Misissippi Queen or American Queen? I hope to visit the Howard someday and you have a fascinating history. Sorry I misspelled on and the Howard also has a wonderful Victorian mansion its located in.
