We took the Barbara H out to meet the DQ this afternoon on her way to Cincinnati. We were actually doing a shakedown cruise to work-out some problems with engine exhaust water (which we solved!), and timed it with the DQ's schedule.
Usually the DQ passes our landing around 2:30 after leaving Madison at 1 PM, but she was running fast today, and also left Madison a couple minutes early. We were just getting underway when she came around the bend at 2:25. We met here at the Carrollton city front.

We were averaging 9.1 mph from after the Madison Bridge to the Markland Lock.
After the lock we were averaging 9.5 mph until we got to the fuel dock at 10:15pm. The fueling is supposed to take 3 hours.
We've got another hour to go after that before we get to Cincinnati.

I figured the DQ must have been doing 9 or 10 mph. I've noticed that they typically run about 8 mph from Madison to Markland.

Anyone know if the DQ left Cincinnati on time,,?? And did thay play the CALLIOPE?? Did thay blow a departure whistle???
None of the cincinnati webcams seem to be working....!

The DQ left Cincy at 6 pm with a great departure whistle and a calliope concert. We´ve followed her down to Anderson Ferry. Then we took the ferry to cross over to the Ohio side at app. 7 pm.

Just an addition to the Barbara H. on our upbound-- a BIG thanks for the show! I knew I'd be giving a talk close to our passing you at the wharfboat, so I talked about her as we left the landing, just so people would watch for her. I was actually finished, but Jerry's wonderful film, Tested by Time, had just started. So if you did not see a crowd out on the deck, it was because they were below, watching the film. Those of us out there were VERY enthusiastic to see you underway--what a treat!! Mary

We just got back home from that trip and it was wonderful to see the Barbara H in person. We loved her salute. Thanks alot.

Thank you all for the compliments! We certainly hope this won't be the last year for these DQ encounters. It was great fun running alongside the DQ, even for just that short stretch at Carrollton.
