Tom Jansing is doing a wonderful job in compiling indexes for some steamboat and riverboat books which don't have an index.
There are several new indexes available for download now, so check out the list and join me saying a big "Thank You" to Tom Jansing.
The following indexes are available as of now:
Bates, Alan L.: Belle of Louisville
Crocker, Helen Barter: The Green River of Kentucky
Crowe-Carraco, Carol: The Big Sandy
Gamble, J. Mack: Steamboats on the Muskingum
Greene, Letha C.: Long Live the Delta Queen

Way Jr., Frederick: The Saga of the Delta Queen
Way Jr., Frederick: She Takes the Horns

Tom and others
I have done an index of all the people but not the maps or the 1852 list if US Licenses Pilots and Engineer in the 1979 reprint of Lloyd's Steamboat Directory and Disasters on the Western Waters 1856. If Franz can handle a Mac 9. system in Apple works V6.0. that I have it in and Lytle-Holdcamper List "Merchants Steam Vessels of the United States 1790-1868" The section of wrecks-Losses broken out by year. And I have an index for Steamboat Bill Hickman's "Steamboating sixty-five years on Missouri's Rivers". and one about half done on Grayson's "Thrills of the Historic Ohio River". Sorry the HP gets used for the Inter net and the Mar for indexing and Genealogy.
No use doing these twice.

Hi Carl. It is, of course, up to Franz what goes on steamboats.org, but as far as I’m concerned these indexes aren’t my private domain and anyone who has done one is welcome to put it up along with mine. The more we have, the better, I say. I hope folks find these indexes useful.
Glad you mentioned Lloyd and Grayson. Those are two books on my to-do list. But if you’ve already done them, you’re right, “no use doing these twice.” I don’t have Bill Hickman’s “Sixty Five Years on Missouri’s Rivers,” so that’s one I couldn’t do. An index I’d love to get hold of was done by Sandra Rae Miller of Gould’s “Fifty Years on the Mississippi.” I believe it was done in 1979. I’ve seen it mentioned in several places, but have never been able to find a copy of it. I wonder if it’s copyrighted, and if it could be put up on steamboats.org? I’d index “Fifty Years...” myself, but there’s no use doing it twice, especially since it’s 750 pages long, right?
FYI, I am now about half-way through indexing “Guns on the Western Waters” by H. Allen Gosnell. It’ll go to Franz as soon as it’s done. I plan to next do Fred Way’s “Pilotin’ Comes Natural” and “The Log of the Betsy Ann.” Since I’ve already done his other three books, I think it would be nice to get these done too.
Keep in touch. Let’s work together and with Franz on this and see what we can come up with.
What a splendid thing to do...thanks to you and Franz...Cap'n Walnut.

I have a copy of Miller's Index Gould's History of River Navigation. It is copyrighted. however Sandra Rae Miller is married to Jack Custer and I believe they still reside in Louisville, KY. They may still have copies.

Carl, I'd be happy to add the indexes you compiled to the list! I'll contact you by e-mail for the details.
Carl, it would be great if Ms. Miller would give permission to post her Gould index on steamboats.org. Could you, or someone, talk to her about it? --Tom

In 2008 Sandra Custer's phone number was 502-776-9093 I checked in people search and believe they are still in Louisville.
